Vipers Strike Down Tigers 31-14 Both the Dripping Springs Tigers and Vandegrift Vipers had lost heavily from the previous year with the Tigers losing most on defense and Vipers on offense. Early on in a season the defense usually holds up the best and is critical to the outcome. This was the case in this game. The Vipers harassed the Tiger offense and did not allow a first down until mid second quarter. In the meantime the Viper offense victimized the Tiger defense with big plays to build up a 31-7 halftime lead.

Vandegrift scored on their first possession on a 34-yard pass play and came back to hit a 50-yard pass to make it 14-0 after one. Early in the second it was a 19 pass. 21-0. The Tigers finally got their offense uncranked as Maddox Maher hit Cooper Reid for a 27-yard touchdown. Aiden Burgess toed the extra point. 21-7. The Vipers were not through as they broke on a 52 run and added a 28 FG for the halftime score.

The second half belonged to the Tigers as the Tiger D dealt the Viper offense misery throughout the half allowing only two first downs. The Tiger offense moved the ball fairly well but had trouble finishing it off. The lone score came early in the third quarter on a Maher sneak from the one. Later DS would miss a FGA. Friday night the Tigers will get their chance at the first win as they take on SA Wagner at Tiger Stadium. Kickoff is slated to be at 7:30.

Lady Tigers Win Streak Stopped

It would take Max-Preps top team in the nation as well as the state, Prestonwood Christian of Plano, to snap the Lady Tigers undefeated streak. Dripping Springs was ranked 18th in that same poll. The Lions were able to take Dripping Springs down with 25-17, 2520 scores. This took place in the Rouse VolleyPalooza Invitational tourney. Prior to the tourney the Lady Tigers scheduled a team from Arizona (Casteel). DS took care of business to the tune of 25-11, 25-21, 25-19.

Tourney results: Lubbock Coronado 25-19, 25-20; SA Brandeis 25-15, 2514; Alvin 25-11, 25-6; Vandegrift 25-12, 2523; SA Clark 25-21, 26-24; The Woodlands 25-19, 23-25, 25-21.

Now that the tourney season is over, the Lady Tigers focus will be on the district race. They will be honing in on an accomplishment they have failed to do since 2019. Win the district title.
