The Lone Star Gourd Festival moves to Dripping Springs

The 29th annual Lone Star Gourd Festival, attracting some of the best gourd artists, will take place Oct. 4-5, 2024, at Ranch Park Event Center. The festival is sponsored by the Texas Gourd Society.

Gourd art involves using hard-shell gourds as a medium for creating works of art. The gourd surfaces may be carved, painted, sanded, burned, dyed, and polished. Typically, a harvested gourd is left to dry for several months before the woody surface is suitable for decorating.

It’s the artists’ imagination that transforms these gourds into art.

From whimsical to incredible, these hollow vessels are turned into artistic conversation pieces and decor and jewelry.

This year’s festival features 22 vendors, a juried artists’ competition, and classes. An “Imagination Station” will be available for attendees to find inspiration for the hobby. Artists will also offer their creations for sale, just in time for the holiday season. Artists and the curious can sign up for classes taught by gourd artists specializing in this technique. Classes are offered October 5, 6 and 7.

Six art pieces, donated by award-winning artists, will be raffled.
