Dripping Springs Community Library hosts Brews & Books event
The Dripping Springs Community Library (DSCL) hosted its first Brews & Books event at Fitzhugh Brewing Saturday August 24. The community gathering featured local children’s book authors Debbie Derbyshire, Steve Reutiman, Bonnie Tribbett Rosario, and Matt Marchant, who read to audiences and signed copies of their books.
Friends of the DSCL sold used books donated by the community to support library programs.
The event also offered a variety of activities for children, along with food and drinks for families to enjoy. Hundreds attended the all-day event, which was sponsored by the Dripping Springs Community Library and Fitzhugh Brewing.
The event aimed to raise funds and community awareness for the capital campaign underway to build a larger, more modern library.
Campaign manager Sarah Rose and her team were present to talk to visitors about the library campaign.
The community library is a nonprofit organization. It is not funded by the city or county. In 1999, voters approved the creation of a library district, which receives a quarter of one cent from local sales tax generated in district borders to support the library.
As the population has grown, so has demand for library services, leading to a space shortage at the current library on Sportsplex Drive. “Currently, we have no more shelf space. If we need to add a book, another book has to leave to make room,” Rose said.
The new library building, planned as a state-of-the-art facility, will be a proud addition to the Dripping Springs community and a testament to its commitment to lifelong learning.
