Letter to the Editor:

An open letter to those who honk, make gestures, yell, and especially to those mentally-challenged drivers who cross a doubleyellow line to pass while I or anyone else is waiting on oncoming northbound traffic to turn left into our drive at 26120 Ranch Road 12 in Dripping Springs:

An open letter to those who honk, make gestures, yell, and especially to those mentally-challenged drivers who cross a doubleyellow line to pass while I or anyone else is waiting on oncoming northbound traffic to turn left into our drive at 26120 Ranch Road 12 in Dripping Springs:

For a reason unknown to me, when TxDOT was doing all the upgrade work on RR12, which included a center turn lane, they failed to extend that lane south to cover my driveway. They left intact the dedicated turn lane (left-turn ONLY) for northbound traffic entering the Caliterra subdivision. This lane IS NOT, as those to whom this letter is addressed seem to think, a center turn lane for me to use. This compels drivers turning into my drive from the north to remain in the southbound lane until northbound traffic clears allowing a safe turn into my drive. The result is that I am blocking southbound traffic behind me. As impatient as drivers have become, too many of them have little respect for traffic laws and safety becomes of secondary importance. Especially potentially hazardous is that instance when those drivers illegally pass, crossing the double-yellow line.

I have spoken to TxDOT about this issue, as well as Hays County Sheriff Deputy (who really cannot do anything about this situation other than to watch for it) and will continue to obtain a safe solution. In the meantime, those who drive on RR12, please think about someone other than just yourself and follow the law.

Very Sincerely,

Charles Busbey
