DSHS students advance to state visual arts event

Dripping Springs High School art students qualified seven pieces of work for the State Visual Arts Scholastic Event after earning the highest distinction at the Region 13 South competition on Saturday, March 2 at Canyon Lake High School.

State qualifiers are Audrey Avery, Nathaniel Godard, Lauren Jennings, Pongthana Khemapunmanas (with two qualifying pieces), Annalisa Mc-Comas and Lucy Timmins. In addition to the six state qualifiers, all 39 pieces of work submitted by 34 DSHS students received all-region accolades.

Each year, student pieces from DSHS are entered in the Region 13 South competition. This year, students from 36 schools submitted more than 1,500 entries with 113 pieces qualifying for the state competition. Students present their work and defend their pieces in front of a judges' panel; entries then receive a score ranging from 1 to 4, with 4 being 'Superior.'

State VASE will be held April 26-27 at San Marcos High School.
