Tiger basketball playoff hopes grow dim

The Tigers basketball team has stumped their toe with four straight losses to give them a 5-7 record. With four games left, they find themselves two games down to Bowie for fourth place. They began the week with a tough 74-68 loss to Hays’ Johnson High School, but the killer was the 53-52 loss to Austin’s Akins High School.

It looked like Akins had upset on their mind from the beginning as they pushed out to 16-8 after one and held a 24-19 lead at the break. The Tigers came out of the dressing room on fire as they tied the score at the 7:00 mark, 2626. Before the quarter was over, they had outscored Akins 27-9 and held a 13-point lead, 46-33.

The change of quarter was the opposite. The Tigers became careless with the ball and tried to hang on. Akins went on a 12-0 run, and with less than a minute to play, Akins tied the score at 52. With 27 seconds showing, Akins hit 1 of 2 free throws, and the Tigers could not answer.

Vs. Johnson: Jaxson Reagan 15, Rushton Budge 14, Zach Fleming 10, Judson Loe 9, Maddox Bloomgren 9, Austin Moore 6, Cooper Reid 5.

Vs. Akins: Reagan 13, Fleming 12, Reid 8, Brandon Spencer 7, Bloomgren 5, Moore 3, Budge 2, Stone Patterson 2.
