Fighting the February weather has not been easy for the DS softball team. March appears to be more favorable. On the first day of March they hosted Boerne Champion in a district game. The 1-1 Lady Tigers got off to a fast start with two runs in the first and second innings and finished up with 3 to blank the Lady Chargers 8-0. Haiden Anderson took the mound and declared she was queen of the hill. She allowed one hit and struck out four in a masterful game. Meanwhile she received the backing of 11 hits from her teammates. Taylor Anderson and Jordan Cox kicked in 4 each, including a triple and home run by Cox. Erika Kanetzky, Attie Lux and Linan Scott had the others.
Disappointment came the weekend before when the giant Tuck Memorial tourney had to be curtailed because of the cold spell. Thursday was an ice day and cancelled. Tournament was redrawn. It was a bitter cold day but the Lady Tigers endured two games anyway. A wise decision was made to cancel out Saturday due to the cold moisture added to the formula. Nothing gained. No fun. Why do it?
DS made the most of their two games played. They eased past Smithson Valley 4-3 and shut out Cedar Park 4-0. Cox pitched the complete 5-inning game with SV, a 6-hitter and six strikeouts. Getting the four hits were T. Anderson, Lux, Cox and H. Anderson. A 3-run third was the key. H. Anderson took her turn on the mound and responded with a 3-hit shutout. She walked three and fanned 9. DS crossed the plate three times in the first to take charge of the game. Getting hits were Scott 2, T. Anderson, E. Kanetzky and Cox.
