Soccer teams off to slow season start

The Dripping Springs High School soccer programs, among the elite in the state, are well into tournament season.

The Dripping Springs High School soccer programs, among the elite in the state, are well into tournament season.

Although both teams are young and somewhat inexperienced this year, that experience will come quickly as they play in their respective tournaments. The sledding will be tough until then, and district play begins this week.

The Tigers headed north to Frisco as usual to compete in the Dr. Pink tourney. They dropped their opener against Tyler’s Legacy High School, 0-6. The second game went the way of the Tigers as they scored a pair of goals in each half to take El Paso’s El Dorado High School, 4-1. They dropped the third match with Frisco’s Lone Star High School, 1-2. The next week, they played in a Dripping Springssponsored tourney and came up winless to Tompkins (0-1), Denton Guyer (0-3) and San Antonio’s Lee High School (0-2).

The Lady Tigers also headed north to Dallas’ Highland Park High School. They were winless with losses going to Midlothian (0-4), Prosper (1-5) and Highland Park (0-2). From there, they moved on to the Governor's Cup in Georgetown. They tied Ridge Point 1-1, but the results with Klein Oak and Stratford were not available at press time.
