The Sarah Pound Chapter of NSDAR celebrated America 250! by honoring their Revolutionary patriots.
The local chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution recently planted a lacebark elm tree on the grounds of the Pound House Farmstead as a living memorial to the brave patriots who fought to gain our independence and freedom. The tree was partially funded by a grant from the National DAR Society as part of their role in raising awareness of the 250th anniversary of the United States.
The November 12 dedication ceremony was opened with the presentation of the colors and the Pledge of Allegiance led by Boy Scout troop 280. John Makar, representing the VFW, read the Preamble to the Declaration of Independence, followed by members of the chapter reading the very moving stories of their patriot ancestor’s service. DAR is committed to education, patriotism, and historic preservation in the community, as well as supporting our service personnel and veterans. Chapter Regent Gigi Sanchez said, “We are proud to honor our Revolutionary patriots and to support the Pound House Farmstead as a recognized historical landmark.”
