Dr. Courtney grew up in Mississippi where she graduated from Belhaven University with a Bachelors of Science in Sports Medicine and Exercise Science. While in college, Dr. Courtney knew that she wanted something different than the sick care model that she had grown up in.

Her first surgery was at the young age of 3, and she continued a life of sickness, multiple hospital visits each year, constant rounds of medications, and surgeries, which led to a downward spiral of her health. While in college, she experienced a deep bout of depression and loss of memory. This was her lowest point in life. The Mississippi lifestyle was to eat anything you wanted that appealed to the taste buds, meaning loads of sugar and fried foods daily, and consistent movement outside of organized sports was not prioritized. She was unaware, and many people still are unaware that lifestyle habits affect your overall health in a drastic way.

After many medications, hospital visits, and surgeries, Dr. Courtney’s mom, Jenetha - who is now the office manager at MaxLiving Chiropractic - insisted that she go to a specific chiropractor in Mississippi who said that she needed to be in the office so that he could help.

Reluctantly, she scheduled her first appointment, and the rest is history. Learning that adjustments not only helped low back and neck pain but that the adjustment did so much more was a game changer.

Adjustments correct spinal misalignments. When a bone is moved into the wrong position a cascade of events occur: nerve irritation, ligament instability, decreased blood flow, muscle weakness and/or spasms, inflammation, and facet joint arthritis. There are 31 spinal nerves that exit from the spinal cord and innervate major organs including the heart, lungs, thyroid, eyes, ears, intestines, kidneys, reproductive organs, etc. This affects everyone with a spine because most adults have desk jobs, participate in physically demanding careers, or experienced a fall or accident that has caused the spine to shift into an undesirable position. Even kids sit at a computer to do school work, are continuously looking down at technology, or have sustained athletic injuries. These are all habits that are detrimental to the discs and joints creating immobility and also impacting energy levels, sleep patterns, concentration, digestion, metabolism, and more.

What if we all prioritized spinal health to make sure that the nervous system, discs, and joints were healthy for not just when we felt pain but regularly because we know that daily lifestyle habits massively impact our quality of life? What would our society be like with healthier adults and kids?

MaxLiving Chiropractic - Dripping Springs celebrated their grand opening last week with a Ribbon Cutting and Open House with the Dripping Springs Chamber of Commerce.
