The Dripping Springs High School girls cross country team has officially booked their stay at the state meet for the last 10 years in a row.
The team is advancing to the UIL State Meet after placing second at the Region IV-6A Meet on Tuesday in Corpus Christi. The Tigers totaled 153 points to claim runner-up honors and finish ahead of Lake Travis (156 points) and Bowie (178 points) High Schools. Vandegrift High School took the team title with just 48 points. All four teams will advance to the UIL State Meet.
Sofia Vences led Dripping Springs with a 22ndplace finish, timing 19:51 over the five-kilometer course. Lucy Fredenburg (20:22), Madison Johnson (20:30), Alexa Velasco (20:30) and Laurel Hoskovec (20:32) also contributed to the team’s point total. Rebecca Nolan (21:11) and Mia Simons (21:21) rounded out the team competitors.
On the boys’ side, Wes Anderson competed individually after placing sixth at the district meet to qualify for regionals.
Anderson timed 16:47 to place 37th in the field of 187 runners.
Dripping Springs will be one of 16 teams competing at the UIL 6A State Meet on Saturday, Nov. 4 at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock. The 6A girls will race at 8:30 a.m. More information on the state meet can be found at uiltexas.org.
