Dripping Springs High School showed an improvement of strength in all phases of the game as they notched their first shutout of the season — 56-0 — over Austin High School.
The Austin team had some good qualities, but there was no matching the Tigers last week. The Tigers put together a strong running game to match their passing game, pushing the ball up and down the field at will. On the other side, the defense stymied the Maroons all night long and kept them out of the endzone. The kicking game on both sides was excellent as the specialty teams scored on a punt return, recovered a kickoff and kept Austin bottled up with their kick coverage.
The first score came midway through the first quarter when Maddox Maher hit Maddox Bloomgren for nine yards and the score. Aidan Burgess made it 7-0. The second quarter was even more productive with five touchdowns to blow the game wide open. After several good runs in the first quarter, Jack Tyndall popped up the middle and sprinted 48 yards untouched for the score. Burgess made it 14-0.
At the 10.15 mark, Maher hit Kyle Koch with a 10-yard pass to make it 21-0. Burgess placed the kickoff in such a location that it was recovered by the Tigers at the 24-yard line, but they could not move the ball and missed a 42-yard field goal. Jack Tyndall bolted for 34 yards to make it 28-0. 2.28. Brother Nick Tyndall got in on the action with a 20-yard run for the touchdown. 35-0. The final score of the half showed Koch's versatility when he returned a punt 55 yards with 1.04 remaining. 42-0.
Although the game was over at that point, the Tigers came out with the first group to get a few more snaps of experience before turning it over to the reserves. Maher decided to use his feet this time and dazzled with a 35-yard run. Landon Requard toed the extra point. 49-0. Maher used his arm the next time to complete a 28-yard pass to Koch. Requard made the final 56-0. Reserves went the rest of the way.
Friday, Sept. 22, the Tigers will return home to match up with the Bowie High School Bulldogs for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
