Lady Tigers Softball drops district game

After squeezing out a victory against district foe Hays Johnson, the Lady Tigers headed out to College Station to play in the NFCA Lead-Off Classic to quickly get more good opposition to prepare themselves for the rest of the season. They would split their six-game set and come back home to take on perennially strong New Braunfels Canyon in another district game.

Errors, a department early on haunting the Lady Tigers, did them in as they dropped a 10-6 decision to Canyon. Six errors in the game was a main contributor to a 6-run fourth that chased Jordan Cox. The Lady Tigers had enough firepower in eight hits to ordinarily do the trick but they could not bunch them together. Erika Kanetzky and Haiden Anderson had a pair with Cox, Anderson and Ashtyn Owens adding doubles. Linan Scott poked a triple. Taylor Anderson had the other hit. Only four NBC runs were earned.

Dripping Springs got to entertain teams from a major portion of the state in the NFCA tourney. Magnolia West downed DS 4-2 in a four-inning stint. H. Anderson gave up 6 hits, 3 runs and walked three in her 2.2 innings. H. Anderson led the 7-hit attack with two. Her sister Taylor added a triple.

Next was El Paso Montwood. Another four-inning game. This time it was DS on top 6-2. Cox had a complete game giving up three hits. A 5-run second was the big inning. This time it was Taylor Anderson that had two hits as did Owens. Jo Hudgeons and H. Anderson finished out the six.

Change days and up popped San Antonio Harlan. DS disposed of them 7-1 as ten hits were produced. A 3-run second and 2-run sixth were the big innings. H. Anderson hurled the complete game giving up 4 hits. H. Anderson helped her cause with 3, sister Taylor 2 and Scott two. Cox and H. Anderson had doubles.

Friday was a day the Lady Tigers enjoyed at the bat. They indeed enjoyed the pitching of Irvin Nimitz by banging out 16 hits in the 13-5 win. Cox got the complete game win. Getting two hits each were T. Anderson, Haley Kanetzky, E. Kanetzky, Attie Lux, Hudgeons, Cox and Scott. Scott had a triple while Mallory Sandoval and Kate Tressler closed out the hitting.

The tables were turned on the Lady Tigers on Saturday as they dropped two. The first was RR Cedar Ridge 6-2. Four errors did not help. T. Anderson stroked three hits in the 6-hit attack. H. Anderson had a 7-inning complete game giving up 10 hits, striking out 7, walking four.

Cypress Ranch toppled the Tigers 5-1. A 5-run fourth doing all the damage. Of the four hits, Scott got two, Tressler and Lux the others. Cox tossed 4.1 innings, giving up 8 hits, 5 runs, 4 walks and 4 strikeouts.
