The Salt Lick BBQ is still open for business after one of its two buildings caught fire over the weekend.
The fire broke out at the original Salt Lick location on FM 1826 around 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 20, according to the Hays County Fire Marshal's Office. An investigation by the North Hays Fire Department, along with the Wimberley and Kyle fire marshals, revealed that a flame or ember from cooking ignited the fire in a grease duct. Damages were limited to one building — the cost of which may exceed $25,000.
No customers were in the building when the fire began, and no injuries were reported.
Patrons of the barbecue joint were notified via Facebook and Twitter that the restaurant would not close for business, but that wait times could be affected.
“Heads up, BBQ fans,” the post stated. “Unfortunately, we've had a little fire in one of our buildings today. Everything is under control and everyone is okay and we are still open, but please be aware wait time may be a bit longer today since we are only able to be open in one of our buildings. Thank you for your patience and understanding.”
This is the second fire at Salt Lick’s Driftwood location in the last six years with the restaurant having experienced another kitchen fire in December 2016.
