The Dripping Springs High School Lady Tigers have acted like the fast runner who decides to drop back and then sprints back to take back the lead.

After going undefeated the first half of the season, the Lady Tigers promptly lost three to drop out of first but just as quickly won the final five to take back the top slot. They have amassed a 28-7, 13-3 record. Johnson High School did what they had to do by defeating Westlake High School to share the crown with the Lady Tigers. They played a seed game Monday, April 24 to determine who plays the third and fourth seeds in District 25-6A later in the week, Vista Ridge and Stony Point.

The Lady Tigers have learned to win in all types of situations, including old school. Their 2-0 game over Del Valle High School was such a game. In the old days, when both teams had shutdown pitchers, the game's lone score usually came on something like a wild pitch on third strike to get to first. A sac bunt, stolen base and error and you had the win.

In this game, the runs were scored in the first inning. Taylor Anderson singled, bunted to second, stole third and scored on a wild pitch. The second run came when Kiera Hector ran for Jordan Cox, stole second, moved to third on a ground out and scored on a passed ball.

Head Coach Wade Womack said Del Valle had the bases-loaded and tried to bunt the runner home with one out. Fortunately, Cox came off the mound, diving to make the catch and throwing out the runner at third. He applauded that play and other great defensive plays and some really good play by the outfielders. Anderson (with two) and Kate Tressler got the only hits, and Cox tossed the complete game giving up four hits, walking one and striking out five.

In the other games, the Lady Tigers took out Lake Travis (8-2) and Anderson (9-0) High Schools.

Vs. Anderson: T. Anderson 3, Kanetzky 3, Cox 3 (2B, 3B), Megan Joost, Flores HR. Pitch: Cox 7IP, 3H, 1W, 12K.
