The Dripping Springs High School baseball and softball teams have seen mixed results on the diamond this season. While the Tigers might not see the playoffs, the Lady Tigers have returned to a strong standing in the district.
After their upset of state-ranked Westlake High School, the Tigers were on the short end of their next three games. Westlake also got its measure of revenge in a 8-0 win. Jaxon Conover and Ryland Mahoney got the only hits while Josh Edwards, Nick Tyndall and Travis Mora were unable to duplicate the previous no-hitter, giving up eight.
A series with Lake Travis High School was next on the list. Lake Travis would amass seven runs early by scoring three in the second inning and two each in the third and fourth. Those runs were enough to give them the 7-5 win. The Tigers got one run back in the third on an error. Nick and Jack Tyndall scored in the fifth inning on a ground out and error to get closer. Mason Ashlock scored, as did Hagen Shipley, with home runs in the sixth.
The fans at the Dripping Springs field were treated to a masterful game in the return match with Lake Travis. Kadyn Leon of Lake Travis pitched a no-hitter, walking three and striking out 11 to hold off the Tigers 1-0. The game was close to going into extra innings, but the lone score came for Lake Travis in the fourth inning after the first two batters made outs. Three consecutive singles produced the run. Edwards took the mound, pitching 4 innings with 6H, 1R, 1ER, 1W, 3K. Mora relieved for three giving up two hits, walking two and striking out three.
The Tigers have a twogame series with Del Valle and Anderson High Schools left in their season. They are 11-14-2 on the season and 5-7 in district.
Meanwhile, after losing their third game in a row, the Lady Tigers runruled two teams to stop their skid.
The Lady Tigers are among five schools battling for the seeds in the playoffs. Their last loss, to Johnson High School, ended with a score of 4-11. The Lady Tigers scored in the first inning, and Johnson added three in the third. DS would take a 4-3 lead in the fifth inning, but Johnson took final command in their half with six runs, adding two the next inning. Haiden Anderson led the 6-hit attack with two.
In a change of pace, it only took five innings for the Lady Tigers to dispose of Akins High School 10-0. Kristen Zeman and Cox led the nine-hit barrage with two. Linan Scott had a double and H. Anderson a homerun for firepower. Flores pitched the five-inning game, giving up two hits, walking two and striking out five.
Westlake went a little longer but with the same result as the Lady Tigers triumphed 12-0 in seven innings. The Lady Tigers held a 14-2 advantage. Taylor Anderson was the top hitter with three, including two triples. Erica Kanetzky had two with a triple, while H. Anderson and Flores had two hits as well. Cox had the complete game with one walk and 5K's.
The Lady Tigers are 25-7 and 10-3 in district.
