The FIRST Robotics Competition team from Dripping Springs High School — also known as 'The Spring Konstant” — has earned a trip to the 2023 FIRST World Championships.
On Saturday, April 8, the team won the Engineering Inspiration Award at the FRC State Championship event. This prestigious award celebrates outstanding success in advancing respect and appreciation for engineering within a team's school and community. The Spring Konstant is the youngest team in Texas to achieve this honor.
In winning the award, the judges highlighted The Spring Konstant's efforts to lead science, technology, engineering, and math activities at events such as Christmas on Mercer, Hill Country Rally for Kids, summer camps at the Dripping Springs Community Library and throughout various Dripping Springs ISD elementary and middle school campuses. The judges also applauded the students' efforts to author and illustrate a children's book which encourages every child to 'find their place' as part of a robotics team.
The team, composed of 35 high school students and 11 adult engineers and business professionals participated in the UIL State Championships in Houston. The team ended 13th in their division at the state competition after three days of robot play. They were then chosen by the seventh-seed alliance captain and played in the double elimination finals.
The team said they would like to thank their local sponsors L2 Aviation and Arm Automation for their support. If you would like to make a tax deductible donation to the students' trip to World Championships, checks may be made out to 'DSHS Engineering Boosters' and dropped off at DSHS.
The 2023 FIRST World Championships will take place April 19– 22.
