The loaded Dripping Springs High School Lady Tigers soccer team was stopped just prior to their goal of reaching state. Meanwhile, their Tiger counterparts are hanging tough as they have advanced to the regional semifinals this Friday.

In the area game, the Lady Tigers easily took care of San Antonio’s Steele High School 8-1. This brought them back to District 25-6A to take on district champion Round Rock High School. Alex Knutson and Ellie Hodsden would score twice in the first half, but RR scored one in each half to tie the game at 2-2 after regulation. No one scored in the first overtime, but Round Rock managed a goal in the fading minutes of second overtime, giving them a 3-2 win. This eliminated the Lady Tigers, ending the season 19-4-2.

The Tigers took on another San Antonio team, Reagan High School, in the area matchup. The game was played at Canyon Lake High School and was delayed for an hour due to lightning. Sophomore Parker Johnson scored a goal in the first half, and the team made it hold up for the win. Coach Hill commented on the strong performances he was able to get from his back line composed of Nathan Warner, Aidan Burgess, Eduar Miranda and Canyon Shaw. The goalkeeper, Lucas Perez, pitched a shutout.

This brought the Tigers back to District 256A to face fourth place Stony Point High School. The fourth place Tigers had already defeated the champion Westwood team and could expect success this time as well. They did not disappoint as the Tigers scored an important three goals in the first half while holding Stony Point to one. Each team scored a pair in the second half to give the Tigers a 5-3 victory and a trip to the regional semifinal game. Scoring for the Tigers were York Merrill (2), Mason Russell, Joey Svoboda and Walker Nurmi. Russell and Svoboda also had two assists.

The Tigers are scheduled to play Laredo’s Alexander High School on Friday, April 7 at Blossom Complex in San Antonio.
