In the previous two matchups, the Dripping Springs High School vs Westwood High School game has come down to one goal in the final seconds, with Dripping Springs winning both games.

Both teams expected Wednesday’s game on Feb. 15 at Westwood could end in similar fashion. Westwood came out firing on all cylinders and jumped out to a 4-0 lead, intent on changing the recent trend. Kyle Parker would be the first Tiger to score, picking up a late first quarter goal to make it 4-1 at the end of the period.

A shift in defense and increase in intensity fueled DSHS in the second. Aiden Kane found Kooper Brown for a goal and followed that up with a goal of his own, off the assist from Brady Taylor. Parker added two more goals late in the half, offsetting a Warrior goal, knotting things up at five at the half.

Westwood started the second half off with goals from seniors Ryan Wyrick and Brad Whittenburg, who combined for eight goals on the night. Parker netted his fourth of five goals to keep the game within one, but then, Westwood hit the gas and scored five goals in succession to end the third quarter, with the game at 12-6. Kane added a goal in the fourth quarter, and Taylor found Parker for his final goal of the night. It wasn’t enough, though, and Westwood closed out a 15-8 victory.

Owen Rhodes and Nate Tyo led the team in ground balls, while Ethan Smith and Charlie Clarno each forced a couple turnovers.

The Drip JV Lacrosse team earned a 16-1 win against Westwood, moving to 3-0 on the season. They have won their games by a combined score of 46-7. They lead their central district peers both in wins and scoring.

The varsity team will travel to Dallas this weekend to play Highland Park High School on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 1 p.m. and Frisco High School on Sunday, Feb. 26 at 1 p.m.
