Dripping Springs High School boys basketball hosted Westlake High School in the second round of district play, and it did not end up much different than the first.
Most sports require a full-game effort for the win, and this was the case with the Westlake game. The DSHS Tigers came out raining threes from a distance to build up a lead. Tiger efforts looked promising with a 15-10 lead after the first quarter.
In the second quarter, only Judson Loe continued finding the range as many Tigers shots failed to connect. Westlake finally overtook the Tigers at 23-21 near the half. However, Loe had one more bullet left in his holster and zapped his final three to put the Tigers ahead 24-23 at the break.
Westlake came out prepared to make their run and caught the Tigers flat-footed. The DSHS team was overwhelmed as Westlake opened the half with a 13-0 run and the game was decided. It was 42-30, Westlake, after the third quarter. The final was 52-39, Westlake.
The situation was very different when the Tigers took on Akins High School. They were a scoring machine, and everyone got in on the scoring action. This game was important to the Tigers because it kept them in the playoff picture.
The Tigers were off and running early as they finished the first stanza with a 21-15 lead. An excellent second quarter pushed the lead ahead 43-24. It was 64-44 after three, and the Tigers finished strong with a final score of 83-60.
