Local 8th grader to compete in Junior Olympic Games

Addilyn Sisk, who will be in 8th grade at Sycamore Springs Middle School next year, qualified for the Junior Olympic Games in Houston next month during a June 20 event in Von Ormy.

Sisk won gold in the 13 year old track and field pentathlon (100hurdles, shot put, high jump, long jump, and 800m run) at the central Texas AAU regional track meet.

Sisk started track and field at age 5 with the Hill Country Comets track club in Boerne, TX.

“The first few years I loved long distance running, and as I got a little older I began adding in long jump, shot put, and eventually high jump, hurdles, and even pole vault,” Sisk said.

She participated in her first track and field triathlon at age 9 (high jump, shot put, and 200m dash) and was an All American at nationals. Now she is competing in the pentathlon.

“My favorite events of the pentathlon would probably be hurdles and long jump. I love the challenge of trying to jump further and run faster each meet. My current personal record in long jump is 15’ 6.5” and I am striving to jump 16’ very soon,” Sisk said.

Her shot put record is 27’. Over the next five years she hopes to keep getting better in all of her track events and one day possibly even compete at the college level. “Next month will be my fifth Junior Olympics to attend, and over the years I have earned an All American title seven times in different events,” Sisk said. “I am grateful for all the experiences I have had getting to compete in the sport I love.”
